Ricky D. Gentz, 70, of Garnavillo, passed away Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024, at his home in Garnavillo, surrounded by his many friends.

Visitation was Friday, Sept. 27, at Morris Funeral Home in Garnavillo.

Inurnment will be held at a later date in Mederville Cemetery, Elkader.

Ricky was born April 20, 1954, the son of Vernie and Marjorie (West) Gentz. Ricky moved to Garnavillo Group Home on Feb. 8, 1995. He has been a resident of Garnavillo for over 29 years and received services from Imagine the Possiblities, formerly known as G&G Living Centers. Imagine the Possibilities has been a huge part of his family.

Ricky made so many friends over the years and his staff became his family. Ricky was very close with his mother and she was thrilled when G&G Living Centers opened to move Ricky closer to home. After Marjorie passed, a former staff member became Ricky’s guardian. Carol Meyer became his guardian to make sure that he received his best services and proper cares, because that was what Marjorie wanted.

Carol was Ricky’s guardian for 13 years. He became part of the Meyer family. Ricky filled the room with love and light. Carol and Vincent Meyer, Kristi, Carrie Meyer and Samantha Wille, we all have a special place in our hearts that Ricky filled.

Ricky was so loved by everyone who met him. He loved picnics, going out to eat and being outside in general. He enjoyed going to the movies and getting snacks at the movies. He loved a good van ride with good company. He had a weakness for chocolate, especially M&M’s. He also had choice words for you if you needed to hear them. He will be greatly missed.

Ricky is survived by his brother, Harley Gentz and his children, Chad Gentz and Ashley Gentz; and his guardian family, Carol and Vincent Meyer, Kristi, Carrie Meyer and Samantha Wille.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a nephew, Matthew Gentz.
