April 6, 1953–February 1, 2025
Steve Johnsrude, 71, Wauzeka, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, with his two children, Tristan and Sara, and his youngest sibling, Paul and wife Tammy by his side.
He was born on April 6, 1953, son of the late Don and Eunice (Grandstaff) Johnsrude.
He was baptized and confirmed at the North Clayton Methodist Church where he grew up.
Steve married the love of his life, his shining star, Mary Jo Steger on Nov. 13, 1976, and they were blessed with two children.
Steve and Mary Jo were dairy farmers in the Marrietta Township since the mid 1980s. Steve was also employed by Sunrise Orchards in Gays Mills, and then Cabella’s in Prairie du Chien until his retirement.
Steve was an exceptional example of being community minded with a servant’s heart. He was active in Crawford County with Farm Bureau, Friends of the Fair and Dairy Breakfast committee for many years and served on the Swiss Valley Board of Directors.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He was an active member of his church serving in many different capacities over the years, including the choir. Steve’s faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was evident in the way Steve lived out his life.
Steve was a member of the North Clayton Cardinals 4-H Club and showed cattle at the Crawford County Fair. After high school, he attended Farm Short Course at University of Wisconsin, Madison.
He first started farming on the orchard ridge.
Steve was an avid reader and a dog lover. He could be found on his daily walk with a beloved dog by his side. His latest pal was Molly, a beautiful black Labrador.
He enjoyed traveling and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He was a loving, supportive husband, father and grandfather. If there was a need in the community, he would step up to help. His children and grandchildren were the greatest joy of his life.
Steve is survived by his children Tristan (Laura) Johnsrude of West Salem and Sara (Kris) Diaz of Eau Claire, grandchildren Noah, Grace and Ava Johnsrude; DeAngelo “DJ” Diaz; siblings Margaret (Tom) Davidson, Linda (Jimmy) Garza, Donald B. Johnsrude, Sue (Arnie) Klema, Alan (Tracy) Johnsrude and Paul (Tammy) Johnsrude.
He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Jo and brothers-in-law, Tom Davidson and Roberto Garza.
Steve’s family would like to express their gratitude to Soldiers Grove Health Services for their love and care while he was a resident there.
The funeral mass for Steve was held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 405 E Le Grand Street, Boscobel with Rev. Christopher Padilla officiating at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10.
