Four MFL MarMac softball players have earned Upper Iowa all-conference honors. Emme Wikner was a unanimous first team selection, while Kacie Picha was named to the second team and Garnett Niedziejko and Autumn Shaw were honorable mention picks.
Wikner played in 34 games her sophomore season, ranking among the best in the conference in multiple categories. Her .511 batting average was second highest and .545 on base percentage third highest. Wikner totaled 48 hits, tying for third in the UIC, with that including 32 singles, 12 doubles and four triples. She had the sixth most total bases in the conference, with 68, and was the runner-up with 22 stolen bases. Wikner knocked in a team-high 19 runs and scored the second most runs among Bulldog players, at 23. As the team’s shortstop, Wikner put up a .950 fielding percentage and had 52 assists—fourth most in the UIC.
Picha, a junior, earned a .329 batting average and .427 on base percentage over 32 games. She ranked second on the team with 27 hits, including a home run, and picked up 12 walks, 18 RBIs and 18 runs scored. Picha was second among MFL MarMac players with 33 total bases and tied for second with 12 stolen bases.
In 31 games, Shaw hit .213 and had a .273 on base percentage. The senior netted 13 hits, five walks, two stolen bases, eight RBIs and five runs scored. As the Bulldogs’ first baseman, Shaw had a UIC-best 1.000 fielding percentage and recorded no errors. She had 188 total chances, which was third most in the conference, and also had the third most put outs with 181.
Niedziejko played in 30 games her senior season, mostly at catcher. She turned in a .942 fielding percentage and had 54 put outs in 69 total chances. Five runners were thrown out stealing—tied for third most in the UIC. Offensively, Niedziejko had a .312 batting average and .380 on base percentage. Twenty hits tied her for third among Bulldog players, and she finished the season with seven walks, nine RBIs and six runs scored.
