A new chapter in early childhood education is beginning in Prairie du Chien, according to the school district.

In a statement released by Laura Stuckey, the B.A. Kennedy principal, Christine and Jeff Panka have committed $100,000 over three years to reinitiate the 3K program in the Prairie du Chien School District.

“We believe in the power of early education to change lives,” said Christine Panka. “This is about more than school readiness — it’s about giving our youngest learners the tools they need to thrive, starting on day one.”

The Panka’s gift makes the Growing Minds Initiative possible. According to Stuckey, the initiative allow the district to offer “high-quality, developmentally appropriate education to three-year-olds, laying the groundwork for long-term academic, emotional, and social success.”

Christine, a six year veteran member and former president of the Prairie du Chien Board of Education, was instrumental in the initial establishment of the 3K program at B.A. Kennedy.

The news release says that the donation is structured to support the program’s operating costs over an initial three-year period, with the ability to carry over unused funds, and reflects the Pankas’ belief in education as a long-term investment in community wellness and opportunity.

Families who utilize the program will be asked to contribute $25 per week to help cover daily supplies, enrichment activities and special learning experiences.

The District has said it will ensure access to the program for all district families and will not exclude children from financial hardship.

Prairie du Chien District Administrator Andy Banasik expressed gratitude for the Pankas’ gift. “This gift is a game-changer. It allows us to resume a critical program that not only supports families today but helps shape a stronger tomorrow for our community.”

The district plans to begin enrollment for the 3K program immediately to ensure a smooth start for the 2025–2026 school year.
