Franklin D. “Frank” Gilkes

October 13, 1935–June 29, 2025

Franklin D. “Frank” Gilkes, age 89 of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chein. 

He was born on Oct. 13, 1935, to George and Viola (Yost) Gilkes. He married Margaret Valley on Aug. 9, 1958, in Prairie du Chien. Frank’s wife of 59 years, Margaret preceded him in death on February 15, 2018. 

He is survived by his children Patrick Gilkes of Oshkosh, Timothy, Julie, and Jeffrey Gilkes all of Prairie du Chien; and his grandchildren, Jason, Cory and Kasey. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Gilkes, brother Darrel Gilkes, and sister in law Karen Gilkes. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025, from 11 a.m. to noon., with luncheon to follow at Huckleberry’s Restaurant in Prairie du Chien, with private inurnment at a later date in the Brodtville Cemetery in Wyalusing.
