A fourth quarter touchdown sealed a 21-12 win for Camanche over visiting MFL MarMac on Oct. 3. The loss dropped the Bulldog football team to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in Class 1A - District 5 play.

 

Camanche held a slight 7-6 lead over MFL MarMac heading into halftime, and both teams added touchdowns in the third quarter. With no extra points, the Storm maintained a one-point lead, 13-12, heading into the final minutes. There, they added another touchdown and two-point conversion.

 

The Storm battled the Bulldogs with a balanced offensive attack, including 198 yards and a touchdown through the air and 166 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. 

 

Blake Schutte led the MFL MarMac defense with 9.5 total tackles, including 1.5 for a loss. Kyler Nuehring amassed 8.5 tackles and Braxton Halvorson 7. Halvorson and teammate Marcus Stoddard combined for a sack, and Stoddard also recovered a fumble. 

 

Other tackle leaders were Tristan Hoopes with 5.5 and Kashton Decker and Aidan Meyer with 3 apiece.

 

Bulldog freshman quarterback Easton Lange, replacing senior Eli Hanson who was injured the week prior, attempted just two passes. He instead relied on a quartet of runners, led by 97 yards and a touchdown from Decker. Bryce Jones carried the ball 19 times for 74 yards, while Schutte racked up 40 yards and a touchdown on 10 attempts. Auston Lind earned 16 yards on two carries.

 

MFL MarMac returns home this week, hosting Cascade on Friday, Oct. 10, with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
