Gloria I. Schmidt

Gloria I. Schmidt, 99, of Prairie du Chien, passed away at Prairie Maison Nursing Home on Oct. 15, 2025. 

She was born on Nov. 16, 1925, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Louis and Jessie (Wachuta) Benish. 

She married Ivan Schmidt in Prairie Du Chien on Oct. 25, 1947. Before marriage, Gloria worked as a CNA at the local hospital. After marrying Ivan, she moved to a Farm in Patch Grove where she resided until 1981. Over the years, she thoroughly enjoyed square dances with her siblings, fish on Friday nights, and playing cards.  

She is survived by her son Jerry (Teresa) Schmidt of Prairie du Chien, Daughter-in-law Marie Schmidt of Fairhope, Ala., Son-in-law Philip Hermsen of Amelia Island, FL, one brother, Robert Benish of LaCrosse, eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ivan, daughter JoAnn, son Gary, and numerous brothers and sisters.

 A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Evergreen Cemetery in Prairie du Chien.
