Gene Calvin Kurth died peacefully on Oct. 9, 2025, surrounded by his family and friends, following his battle with cancer.

 

He was born to Calvin and Leola Kurth on May 6, 1948, joining his older brother, Randy. He lived all of his life in the Monona area.

 

Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967 and served one tour in Germany. He was very proud of his military service.

 

Later he married Barbara Jean Szabo and they were blessed with one son, Jeremy, who currently resides in Waukon. 

 

Gene and Barb were later divorced.

 

Gene was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, but his passion was for breeding and selling horses. He loved telling stories and his great sense of humor will long be remembered.

 

He is survived by his son Jeremy Kurth of Waukon, his brother Randy (Sandi) Kurth of Owatonna, Minn., and his companion Peggy Ireland of Cresco.

 

A private family memorial service is planned for a later date.

 

Memorials should be directed to the donors choice.
