Haleisa (Krause) Johnson, age 67, of Strawberry Point, passed away on Oct. 31, 2025, in the comfort of hospice. Haleisa lived a full and healthy life until her sudden cancer diagnosis in September 2025. Though her time after diagnosis was brief, she was at peace, surrounded by the love of her family and friends.
Haleisa was born March 4, 1958, in Emmetsburg, to Herbert and Kathryn (Cage) Krause. She grew up outside Fenton and graduated from Sentral High School. Following graduation, she attended Winona State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in communication. In the summer of 1980, Haleisa began her career with Upper Iowa University. At an Upper Iowa football game that fall, Haleisa met Randall Johnson. The couple later eloped in Vinton on Oct. 2, 1981. Together, they shared 44 years of marriage, welcoming their daughter, McKenzie, in 1986.
Haleisa worked for Northeast Iowa Food & Fitness and the Robert and Ruth Walker Foundation, serving as Northeast Iowa’s Farm to Early Childhood Coordinator the past 15 years, working up until her diagnosis. She was a vital part in developing and coordinating programs to improve conditions for children’s health and well-being in northeast Iowa since 2007. Haleisa was also involved with the Dolly Parton Imagination Library as regional coordinator, helping foster a love of reading in young children.
Prior to Northeast Iowa Food & Fitness, she served as the foundation director at Central Community Hospital in Elkader and as activity and foundation director at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. She also worked alongside her husband in their family wood business for more than 40 years.
Haleisa’s life was defined by her love of faith, family and friends. She enjoyed time spent with her grandsons and daughter and cherished every moment spent with her husband. Her home was always open, filled with laughter, good food and friendship. Haleisa will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving mother, an adoring grandmother and a loyal friend.
Haleisa is survived by her husband of 44 years, Randall; their daughter, McKenzie, (Travis) Robinson; their grandsons, Jacob and Johnathan Robinson; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Johnson and Gayle Christie (Jerry Williams); along with nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Kathryn Krause; her siblings, Herbert K. Krause, Hollee Strucker and Heidee Barrett; parents-in-law, Ira and Betty Johnson; and brothers-in-law, Robert Johnson and Byron Johnson.
