March 16, 1935–November 9, 2025
Lawrence R. ‘Oz’ Hamilton, 90, passed away Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025, at Stoughton Hospital. He was born Mar. 16, 1935, in Patch Grove, to Lawrence L. and Etta L. (Boldt) Hamilton. Lawrence worked for almost 40 years with JATCO as a driver.
Oz wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz., for many years where he competed in softball, golf, horseshoes, and shuffleboard. He enjoyed his years with the Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association and served as president for multiple terms. Oz participated in many team roping competitions over the years with his brother Gary and was proud of his 1977 Team Roping Championship. He had two teams of horses he drove on the wagon trains and enjoyed hooking them up and giving his grandchildren rides around his property.
Oz is survived by his children: Tracy (Julie) Hamilton of Janesville, Lori (Ed) Sibert of Shell Lake, and Julie (Keith) Gay of Indiana; grandchildren: Casey (Tianne), Brooke (Garrett), Amanda (Shane), Jesse, Justin (Jocelyn), Josh (Lauren), and Rachel; great grandchildren: Taylin, Charlotte, Brielle, Griffey, Cooper, and Nolan; brother Gary (Beverly) Hamilton; significant other Sonya Holbrook; mother of his children Dora Rewey; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Willis (Loretta), James ‘Jiggs’ (Betty); and sister Rita (Alfred) Recker.
A visitation will take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025, at the APFEL WOLFE FUNERAL HOME, 21 S. Austin Rd. Janesville.
He will be laid to rest at a later date in the Patch Grove Cemetery, Patch Grove.
