The Central/Clayton Ridge girls wrestling team had a busy dual schedule last week, with a meet in Guttenberg on Dec. 2, then the Warrior Duals in Elkader on Dec. 5.
The Warriors narrowly lost to Janesville, 42-35, to start the week. Kendall Wagner and Maci Keppler both earned falls at 110 and 135 pounds, while Mayleigh Medberry scored a 17-2 technical fall at 140. Macie Cole (105), Mylee Mueller (170) and Ava Abbott (190) all won due to forfeit.
Janesville benefitted from forfeits at 100, 115, 145 and 155 pounds, then racked up pins against Central/Clayton Ridge’s Claire Orr (120), Daisha Allison (125) and Aubry Wemark (130) in other matches.
In the final dual of the night, New Hampton/Turkey Valley nabbed four wins on forfeit and collected falls over five Warriors wrestlers to best Central/Clayton Ridge 54-22. Allison, Keppler and Medberry each had pins of their own, while Mueller won by 12-2 major decision.
The team was back in action Dec. 5, for the Warrior Duals, where they went 0-4 against some stiff competition.
Benton Community won the opener 57-21, benefitting from seven forfeit victories. Warrior points came on falls for Cole and Keppler, while Allison earned a sudden victory and Abbott a forfeit at 190 pounds.
Central/Clayton Ridge lost 39-15 to Anamosa, but saw exciting falls from Keppler and Medberry at 130 and 135 pounds. Mueller added three points on a 12-6 decision.
With another pin, Medberry continued to wrestle well in the 42-18 loss to East Buchanan. Wagner and Wemark won their respective matches by forfeit, giving the Warriors six points each.
The meet wrapped up with a 46-24 loss to Sumner-Fredericksburg, where the Warriors had falls from Wagner and Medberry, along with forfeit victories courtesy of Mueller and Abbott.
On the schedule this week was was a home quad on Dec. 9, which was postponed due to weather, then the South Winn Girls Tournament on Dec. 12.
