Victories over Edgewood-Colesburg, New Hampton and Wapsie Valley last week improved the MFL MarMac girls basketball team to 5-1.
The Bulldogs opened the week Dec. 8, with a 55-38 win over Ed-Co—the first time they’ve beat the Vikings since 2022. They did it shooting 40 percent from the field, while the Vikings hovered just below 28 percent on the night. MFL MarMac also held a stark rebounding advantage, at 45 versus 24, and snagged 15 steals—contributing to Ed-Co’s 23 turnovers.

Fellow freshman Blair Winter had an equally stellar night with 16 points, seven rebounds, two steals and an assist. She had the team’s lone block.

MFL MarMac followed that up with a 58-45 win over New Hampton on Dec. 12. The Chickasaws out-shot the Bulldogs 37.2 versus 34.5 percent, and got to the free throw line more often, but trailed in rebounds and managed no steals while the Bulldogs grabbed 11.
Driscoll again topped the stat sheet with 16 points, 15 of which were from three-pointers. She also earned three rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Winter knocked down 14 points and led MFL MarMac with five assists. She totaled four rebounds and two steals. Ruff was two of two from long range, for six of her 11 points, and racked up a team leading eight rebounds and four steals. Senior Kacie Picha netted five points off the bench.
The Bulldogs continued to roll on Dec. 13, collecting a dominant 52-17 win over Wapsie Valley in the Upper Iowa Shootout. They held they Warriors to seven points or fewer in each quarter, including zero in the final period.
