The Central/Ed-Co wrestling team went 1-1 in duals and had a strong showing at a tournament last week.
The team began action Dec. 18, at the third annual Iowa vs. Wisconsin Holiday Border Brawl at Postville. Due to weather, just one Wisconsin team—River Ridge—attended the meet. Central/Ed-Co defeated them 48-18 to open the night, bolstered by falls from Jamison Feickert at 126 pounds, George Reimer at 132, Braxton Bormann at 150, Parker Funke at 165 and Colton Hoisington at 175. Additional points came on forfeits for Tallen Mormann at 120, Nolan Gaul at 138 and Cooper Brown at 144.
The Timberwolves picked up points with falls over Isaiah Burns (157), Kayden Williams (215) and Ben Pierschbacher (heavyweight). There were double forfeits at 106, 113 and 190 pounds.
Central/Ed-Co wrapped up the night with a close 45-36 loss to Postville. Reimer earned his second fall of the meet, and Gaul and Kinnick Robbins (144) also pinned their opponents. Bormann, Burns and Hoisington all secured wins by forfeit.
The Pirates benefitted from forfeits at 106, 113 and 190 pounds, in addition to collecting four pins against Mormann, Brown, Williams and Pierschbacher. Feickert lost 6-5 by tiebreaker.
At the Dec. 20 Ron Dodd Invitational, all Central/Ed-Co wrestlers placed seventh or better, led by a championship performance for Bormann at 150 pounds. The senior picked up four falls to advance to the title bout, where he won by medical forfeit over Jerrett Brackin of Highland, Riverside.
Reimer and Funke both placed fourth in their respective 132- and 157-pound weight brackets. Four wrestlers—Pierschbacher at heavyweight, Landon Glawe at 215, Gaul at 138 and Zane Embretson at 175—all finished fifth at the tournament, while Brown and Hoisington were sixth at 144 and 165 pounds. At 126 pounds, Feickert placed seventh.
Central/Ed-Co wraps up the 2025 portion of its schedule this week, hosting an Upper Iowa Conference quad on Dec. 23. The team will then have a week off for winter break.
