Bernice F. Kobler

Bernice Faye Kobler, 95, passed away on Jan. 4, 2026 in the Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Neb.

She was born Nov. 11, 1930, on a farm to Elmer and Zelda (Rayment) Schmalfeld. She was the youngest of three daughters.

Bernice was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. She graduated from Elkader High School in 1948.

On Nov. 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Harold Henry Glawe at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. To this union three children were born, Carol, Bradley (Brad) and Gene. She and Harold farmed alongside Harold’s twin brother Harley and sister-in-law Irma for 18 years, until Harold’s death in 1966. During those years, she treasured her time as “second” mom to Dennis, Teresa, Vicki and Reed.

Bernice held several jobs throughout her life, but her longest job was at Werner Enterprises in Omaha, Neb., for 28 years. She retired in 2018.

In 1999, she married Eugene (Bing) Kobler. She and Bing spent many years polka dancing, and made forever friends throughout the Midwest. They were very good dancers, and they even coordinated their outfits for each event.

Bernice loved her family and treasured hearing about each of them. Her never-ending love and care for her family will be missed, but will remain in the hearts and minds of her family in the memories of their precious time together.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Eugene (Bing), Omaha, Neb.; children, Carol (Tom) Mueller, Omaha, Neb., Brad (Cris) Glawe, Elkader, and Gene (Sheri) Glawe, Elkader; grandchildren, Joshua (Christine) Glawe, Polo, Ill., Kelli (Paul) Erickson, Elkader, Toni (Jake) Knadle, Plymouth, Minn., Sandi Anderson, Cedar Falls, and Nathan (Cristan) Mueller, Redondo Beach, Calif.; 12 great-grandchildren; and three stepdaughters who lovingly called her “Miss B.” She is survived also by many nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Zelda Schmalfeld; husband, Harold Glawe; two sisters and their spouses, Eunice (Lawrence Jr.) Miller and Norma (Delbert) Hughes; daughter-in-law, Trisha Glawe; stepdaughter, Bobbi Hager; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life in Elkader will be held at a later date.
