The Central/Clayton Ridge girls wrestling team totaled 49 points to place 12th among 24 teams at the eighth annual Central Girls Invitational on Jan. 9.

Seniors Mayleigh Medberry (125 pounds) and Maci Keppler (130) led the Warriors against the loaded field, placing fourth in their respective brackets. Ava Abbott at 170 pounds and Kendall Wagner at 115 both placed seventh. Claire Orr (115), Daisha Allison (120), Luz Hernandez (135) and Mylee Mueller (155) did not place in their classes.

The tournament came after Central/Clayton Ridge went 2-1 in a series of Upper Iowa Conference duals at Crestwood on Jan. 6.

The Warriors opened with a 48-12 victory over Riceville. The team benefited from six victories by forfeit for Orr, Medberry, Addison Davis (140), Crystal Goodrich (145), Mueller and Abbott. Wagner pinned her opponent at 115.

Riceville picked up points with falls over Allison and Hernandez. There were double forfeits at 100, 105, 190 and 235 pounds.

Central/Clayton Ridge continued to roll in a 48-24 win against MFL MarMac, a dual that saw nine forfeits—two of them doubles at 155 and 235 pounds. The Warriors won five matches in that manner, in favor of Wagner, Orr, Keppler, Davis and Goodrich. Allison, Medberry and Mueller secured falls to increase the team score. Hernandez and Abbott were pinned by their Bulldog opponents.

The night concluded in a 60-16 loss to host school Crestwood. The larger Cadets squad won four matches by forfeit at 100, 105, 140 and 190 pounds. Wagner, Orr, Allison, Hernandez, Goodrich and Abbot lost their matches by fall.

Keppler and Medberry boosted the team with technical fall victories, and Mueller nabbed a win by forfeit.

The Warriors had more duals on tap this week, in a Jan. 13 dual at Waukon. They will compete in a tournament at Postville on Jan. 16.
