Five MFL MarMac wrestlers made it on the podium at the Jan. 10 Anamosa Girls Invitational—a tournament that featured some stiff competition from around the state.

Kennedy Bachman led the contingent as the runner-up at 100 pounds. The junior picked up a technical fall and fall before losing by 4-1 decision to Sophie Adams of Decorah in the championship match.

Freshman Aaliyah Corcoran went 3-1 on the day, capped off by a pin in the 105-pound third place match.

Sophomore Charlotte Koether also made it to the third place bout at 125 pounds, but lost a close 8-7 decision to finish fourth.

Isla Henkes and Alydia Able placed eighth in their respective 170- and 135-pound weight brackets.

Hannah Jacobson (170) and Veda Torkelson (115) did not place.

The tournament followed up a 1-2 dual week for the Bulldogs, who faced several schools at Crestwood on Jan. 6.

MFL MarMac opened the night with a 36-18 win over Riceville, in a dual that had 12 forfeits, including doubles at 110, 140, 145, 155 and 235 pounds. Bulldogs Bachman, Corcoran, Henkes and Jacobon all won their matches by forfeit, while Koether pinned her opponent at 130 pounds. The Wildcats picked up two wins via forfeit and earned a fall over Torkelson at 120.

The Bulldogs lost to Crestwood 66-12 in the following dual, falling prey to forfeits against a bigger squad. The Cadets were uncontested at six weights and also had falls over Corcoran, Torkelson, Abel, Henkes and Jacobson.

MFL MarMac’s points came on falls for Bachman and Koether.

The team lost its third dual 48-24 to Central/Clayton Ridge. Abel and Henkes boosted the Bulldogs with falls, while Bachman and Corcoran added to the point total with forfeit wins. The Warriors benefitted from MFL MarMac forfeits at five weights and netted falls against Torkelson, Koether and Jacobson.

The Bulldogs have a busy week in store, hosting duals against South Winneshiek and Janesville on Jan. 13, before heading to tournaments at Cascade on Jan. 15 and East Buchanan Jan. 17.
