The MFL MarMac boys basketball team went 2-1 last week, losing a close game to Charles City, but easily vanquishing Upper Iowa Conference opponents Clayton Ridge and West Central.

The Bulldogs opened their Jan. 6 match-up versus Clayton Ridge on an 18-0 run and never looked back, winning 73-32. They shot an impressive 51.9 percent from the field and drained 12 three-point shots.

Carter Lightfoot was a perfect 6-6 from behind the arc, for 18 of his team-high 26 points. The senior also led MFL MarMac with six assists and had two rebounds and two steals.

Tristan Bacon had an equally hot hand from long range, sinking five of six attempts. He scored 19 points and added three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Wesley Corlett supported the team in the paint—12 points and 10 rebounds giving him another double-double. He also had three assists, a steal and a block.

Bryce Jones gave the Bulldogs six points, three steals, two rebounds and an assist off the bench.

MFL MarMac continued to shoot well against Charles City on Jan. 8, at 44.3 percent overall and another nine three-pointers. However, the Comets had a 42.9 percent shooting night and benefitted from 32 free throw attempts to the Bulldogs’ 18, making 21 of them in an 85-80 overtime win.

After making over half his shots on the night, Lightfoot posted a career best 46 points. He also topped the stat sheet with six rebounds and six assists and collected three of the team’s 11 steals.

Bacon connected on five three-pointers for 15 of his 19 points, while Carsten Pester knocked down a pair of threes for six points. He was also among team leaders with five rebounds and aided the defense with two steals and a block. Eli Hanson concluded the game with five points, five rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal.

The Bulldogs returned to the win column Jan. 9, upending West Central 80-44. The team pushed its shooting percentage back over 50 percent in this game, led by another impressive performance from Lightfoot: 21 points on 66.7 percent shooting to go with seven assists, three steals and two rebounds.

Corlett tacked on another double-double with a stellar 19 points and 17 rebounds. He also had MFL MarMac’s lone block. Pester earned 14 points—12 of them from behind the arc—along with seven rebounds, an assist and a steal, while Hanson’s stat line included nine points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
