The Central/Ed-Co boys wrestling team returned from winter break last week, going 1-2 in duals and placing multiple wrestlers at the home tournament.

The team opened the Jan. 6 Upper Iowa Conference dual meet at Crestwood with a 66-6 loss to Riceville. Senior Braxton Bormann picked up the lone points on a fall at 144 pounds. Teammates Tallen Mormann (113), George Reimer (132), Nolan Gaul (138), Cooper Brown (144), Isaiah Burns (157), Zane Embretson (165), Colton Hoisington (175), Kayden Williams (215) and Ben Pierschbacher (285) were all pinned by their opponents. The Wildcats also had wins by forfeit at 120 and 190 pounds, and there were double forfeits at 106 and 126.

A score of 42-21 got Central/Ed-Co back in the win column against MFL MarMac. The team benefitted from four wins by forfeit in this dual, coming to Mormann, Gaul, Embretson and Hoisington. Brown, Parker Funke (157) and Burns all scored falls.

The Bulldogs netted points on falls against Williams and Pierschbacher and a forfeit at 144 pounds, while Reimer lost by 6-2 decision.

Central/Ed-Co wrapped up the meet with a 53-18 loss to host Crestwood. Brown, Bormann and Hoisington aided the effort with pins over their opponents. The Cadets were tough, though, collecting falls over Gaul, Williams and Pierschbacher, as well as technical falls against Mormann and Burns and a major decision over Reimer. Embretson lost a narrow 9-7 decision, and there were also Central/Ed-Co forfeits at 120, 126 and 190 pounds.

The week concluded at the 46th annual Central Invitational on Jan. 10, at which the team placed seven wrestlers on the podium. Reimer was the top finisher, placing third at 132 pounds, and Burns and Williams came in fourth in their respective 157- and 215-pound weight brackets. Hoisington took fifth at 175 pounds, then Brown (144), Gaul (138) and Embretson (165) all placed sixth.

Dual action continued for Central/Ed-Co at Waukon on Jan. 13. The team will close out this week at the Lake Mills Dual Tournament on Jan. 17.
