Judith Ann Nuehring, 81, of Guttenberg passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020.

Per Judy’s request in lieu of a formal funeral service, a celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Judy was born on Dec. 1, 1938, in Waterloo to Lois (Gorkow) and Harvey Kulper.

Lawrence E. “Larry” Turner, 51, of Holy Cross passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

Larry was born March 15, 1968, in Dubuque the son of Elmer and Shirley Turner.  He graduated from Guttenberg Community High School with the Class of 1987, and worked at Nordic Forge for a while.  He developed his career as a welder and most recently worked at EIP in Earlville.

Per Lyneen’s wishes, private services will be held later this year.

Iowa Cremation of Cedar Rapids, was in charge of arrangements.

LaVonne Parker, 86, of Guttenberg, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2020. 

Private family services will be at a later date. 

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg. 

LaVonne was born on June 8, 1933, on the family farm outside of Guttenberg, the daughter of August and Edna Morarend.

Visitation and services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo.

Iowa farmland average value shows modest growth in 2019

According to Iowa State University, it’s been a difficult year for farmers — the planting season saw an overabundance of rain and delayed planting, the United States’ trade war with China persisted, skewing both commodity prices and demand, and farm bankruptcies rose to the highest level since 2011. 

However, favorable interest rates, strong yields, and limited land supply combined to help drive Iowa’s average farmland values up for only the second time in six years.

Louise Annette Kregel, 82, of Guttenberg, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center in Dubuque.

Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 16, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, followed by a scripture/committal service.

Interment will be at Guttenberg City Cemetery at a later date.

Mercedes "Mert" Duffy, 93, of Guttenberg passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg.

A prayer service will be at 12 noon Monday, Feb. 24, at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein.

A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the prayer service at the American Legion in Oelwein.
