Rodenbergs win IGA Tournament

Longtime golfers Brian and Vicki Rodenberg recently won the Super Senior division of the 2023 Iowa Golf Association (IGA) Wife-Husband Championship at Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo this past September. They cinched the title with a score of 153 combined over two days, scoring a 78 the first day, and a 75 the second on the Par 72 course.

Jim and Mary Gamerdinger of Gut-tenberg will celebrate 68 years of marital bliss on Nov. 19. The couple has 12 children with 12 spouses, 58 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Jim and Mary met on a warm June day on a Lake Michigan beach in Milwaukee, Wis.

Vets Day program at school Nov. 10

This year's community Veterans Day program will be held at the Clayton Ridge School gymnasium on Friday, Nov. 10, starting at 10 a.m. 

The event is being planned by faculty and students and is a departure from the traditional ceremony held annually at the Veteran's Memorial in Ingleside Park. All community members are welcome to attend.

Jannan Louise Bauer, 68, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023, at her home after her long fought battle with cancer.

No services will be held at this time.

Jannan was born April 8, 1955, daughter of Christopher and Rose (Hildebrand) Bauer.

John J. “Joe” McGinn Jr.

John J. “Joe” McGinn Jr., 66, of Guttenberg, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at his home. 

Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 27, at Behr Funeral Home, Dubuque, conducted by Deacon David Roth. Visitation was before services at the funeral home.

Burial was in Sacred Heart Fillmore Cemetery.

Merlin M. Barry, 93, of Colesburg passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 27, at the Guttenberg United Methodist Church, conducted by Pastor Neil Hofer. Visitation was before services at the church. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.

Dog Park project moves forward with UMGC grant

Guttenberg city council members approved a 25,000 square foot handicap accessible dog park to be located on a site adjacent to the wastewater building off of Dekalb Street in Guttenberg at their regular monthly meeting in May.

Local artist renews her love of stained glass

Stained glass was a popular design element in late Medieval and Romanesque art (c.1000-1400), before becoming an essential feature of Gothic style architecture. Modern glass art, which incorporates all forms of stained glass, including sculpture, stems from developments in America in the late 19th century.

Bernita Marcella (Herman) Moser, 90, of rural Edgewood made her journey into heaven on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at MercyOne Senior Care in Dyersville.

Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg.

Mass will commence at 10:30 a.m. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Marvin Bries will officiate.
