Visitation was Monday, Feb. 3, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Luana.

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness where the subconscious level of the mind is in a state of hyper-suggestibility. Hypnotic suggestion creates a trance-like state in which an individual will experience a heightened level of focus and concentration. Hypnosis is done with the help of a hypnotist who uses verbal repetition and mental images to make the person feel calm, relaxed and more open to suggestions.

Former Guttenberg "Pirates" coach and mathematics teacher Duane Wilde was recently recognized for his ongoing commitment to high school athletics. A dedication ceremony was held at the Palmyra - Eagle Area School District High School in Palmyra, Wis. The school's recently-refurbished gymnasium floor now bears the name of the legendary coach.

Corps monitors high water on Upper Mississippi River

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is monitoring high water conditions affecting parts of the Upper Mississippi River in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa as a result of historic flows this winter. 

The Corps urges the public to remain vigilant for river flooding. Cities from Winona, Minn., to Guttenberg, have an increased chance of localized flooding due to ice dams.

Clayton County residents prepare to caucus Feb. 3

Clayton County residents will join Iowans from across the state on Monday, Feb. 3, as the nation turns its attention to the results of the Iowa Presidential caucuses.

Voters from approximately 1,700 voting precincts across the state will meet to select delegates to their respective county conventions. The 99 county conventions will then choose delegates for state party conventions, who  in turn will subsequently head to the national conventions later this year.

It provides them with an opportunity to become actively connected to society and has a long-lasting positive impact on the community they live in. Volunteering also enables young adults to acquire valuable life skills, knowledge, and provide service to individuals who are most vulnerable.

Barnabetta Rae Cline, 93, of Guttenberg, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital following a brief illness.

With respect to Barnabetta’s wishes, a private family service will be held at a later date. 

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Patricia J. Scheffert

Patricia J. Scheffert, 85, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center.

Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 22, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Thursday, Jan. 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.
