IVRS trains students to succeed in the workforce

An organization known as Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services (IVRS) has been working with Clayton Ridge staff and students to help prepare all youth, especially those with disabilities, for success after high school. IVRS focuses on job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, counseling on opportunities, workplace readiness training and self-advocacy instruction.

Visitation was Sunday, Aug. 28, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 29, at the Gospel Hall, Garnavillo.

Interment was at St. John's Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Robert Tackman, 73, of rural Garnavillo, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016.

Visitation was Tuesday, Aug. 23, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Interment was at Guttenberg City Cemetery, Guttenberg.

Ruth J. Werges

Ruth Jeanne Werges, 87, of Garnavillo, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at Elkader Care Center.

Visitation was Friday, Aug. 26, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Saturday, Aug. 27, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo.

Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Marilyn L. Breimon

Marilyn Louise Breimon, 79, of Guttenberg, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital. 

Per Marilyn's wishes there will be no services.

Marilyn was born on Dec. 1, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Irene Purdy. 

Marilyn loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved her pets, music,  and in her spare time enjoyed painting.

Karen K. Hussain

Karen Kay Hussain of Cupertino, Calif., 74, died on Aug. 14, 2016, of complications due to cardiac surgery.

Visitation was Saturday, Aug. 20, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Sunday, Aug. 21, at St. John's Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Jaeger family celebrates ties at annual reunions

"The family that plays together stays together" could be the motto of the Jaeger family, whose members gather each summer for a reunion weekend featuring plenty of fun, food and fellowship.

Each summer the many descendants of  the late Albert and Lucille Jaeger of Guttenberg come together to renew acquaintances and to enjoy a themed celebration.

Suicide prevention presentation series planned for Sept. 9

A series of free suicide prevention presentations will be hosted by Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health on Friday, Sept. 9, to help community members act to reduce the number of suicides. 

Mayor Russ Loven invited a counselor from Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health to present at a Guttenberg Rotary Club meeting earlier this year. “It was well received and we thought this information was important enough to share with the broader public,” said Loven’s wife, Juanita.

Clayton County Supervisors hold public hearing on Pattison zoning

More than 50 people attended an Aug. 15 public hearing to discuss a request from the Pattison Sand Company to rezone some land around its mining operation from A1 (agricultural) to M2 (heavy industrial) to mine underground. Planning and Zoning Commissioner Janet Ott told the group that the P&Z has recommended that the land be rezoned.  She also said that the commission had included several restrictions and suggestions for the rezoning.
