Susan Lynn Hefel, 61, of Guttenberg, died Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg. 

Funeral services were Friday, May 20, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, conducted by Deacon James Pfaffly. Visitation was before services at the funeral home.

Interment was at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, North Buena Vista.

Junior Achievement (JA) is the world’s largest and fastest-growing non-profit organization dedicated to educating young people about work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Using an age-appropriate curriculum, Junior Achievement programs begin in kindergarten and continue through the twelfth grade. The program teaches kids how they can impact the world around them as individuals, workers and consumers. It also inspires and prepares youth to succeed in a global economy.

Although St. Louis, Mo., is often considered Head East's hometown, the original members – brothers Roger and Larry Boyd, Steve Huston, John Schlitt, and Dan Piper — grew up in southern Illinois. The Band was originally called TimeAtions, but adopted the name Head East in 1969. Under their new name, Head East performed their first gig in Carbondale, Ill., about 100 miles southeast of St. Louis. 

Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics was recently named one of the top 20 critical access hospitals (CAHs) for Best Practice—Patient Satisfaction in the country. 

The top 20 CAHs, including GMHC, scored best among CAHs as determined by the Chartis Center for Rural Health for Patient Satisfaction. The rankings were recently announced by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). An awards ceremony will be held during NRHA’s Critical Access Hospital Conference in September in Kansas City, Mo.
