Diane J. Robertson

Diane Jean Robertson, 80, of Red Wing and formerly of Elkader and Waukon,  died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2023, at the Benedictine Living Community. She was born Feb. 19, 1943, in Volney, to Leonard and Margaretta (Darling) Steele. She grew up helping her parents run the local store in Volney while attending school. Later, as a young woman, Diane had three boys who she raised by herself, until she met her husband, Richard Robertson. They were married in 1965 and lived in Waukon, where she helped her husband on the farm and was a homemaker and mother, caring for her four children.

Jean Petsche

Jean (Freshwaters) Petsche, 63, of Colona, Ill., passed away on Monday, Oct. 9, 2023, at the University of Iowa Hospital. A memorial service celebrating Jean’s life will be held on Nov. 5, at 5 p.m., at First Methodist Church in Geneseo, Ill. Reverend Dr. Chris Ritter will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. prior to the memorial service. Memorials can be directed to Little Green Apple or pro-life Organizations. LeeAllen Louis Wilbert Lenth passed away peacefully in his favorite chair on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, in Littleport. He was born on Jan. 15, 1938, to Wilbert Sr. and Viola (Gruel) Lenth in Monona.

Elaine K. Peterson

Elaine Kay (Husman) Peterson, 81, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Volga, made her final journey home on Oct. 11, 2023, at Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. A memorial and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, at St. Sebald Lutheran Church near Strawberry Point. Visitation at 10:30 a.m., service at 11 a.m., with lunch to follow at the church. Elaine was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be missed by those who knew her and loved her.

Bret Arthur Moon was born Jan. 22, 1968, at Central Community Hospital, Elkader, to Terry and Anita (Schaub) Moon. He was baptized at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, on Feb. 18, 1968. His sponsors were Dianne Sudol and Harry Moon. On March 20, 1983, he was confirmed at Peace Church.

Helen Ambrose Schaefers, 93, of McGregor, formerly of Dubuque, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, at Great River Care Center in McGregor. She was born on July 17, 1930, in Garnavillo, to Casper and Mary (Lucher) Schaefers. Helen was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church and also attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Garnavillo.

Joanne Eileen Odegard, 90 of Elgin, passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in West Union. Joanne Eileen was born April 12, 1933, in Clayton County, to Charley T. Odegard and Lydia (Hofer) Odegard. She joined sisters and brothers: Gladys Martie, Floyd Odegard, Mildred Blau, Verna Nutting, Selma Dennis, Robert M. Odegard, Lavern Odegard, Glen Odegard and lone Nyberg. Joanne was the baby of the family.

James K. 'Jim' Kramer

James Keith “Jim” Kramer, 80, of Fennimore, Wis., passed away on Sept. 13, 2023, at the Divine Rehabilitation and Nursing in Fennimore. Jim was born Nov. 20, 1942, in Elkader, the son of Alfred and Charlotte (Dohrer) Kramer. He grew up on his parent’s farm and attended Elkader Central High School, graduating in 1960. Following graduation, Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served for five years, two in California and three in Okinawa.
