Eldon F. Rahmiller

Eldon Frank Rahmiller, 77, of Iowa Falls, passed away peacefully on Dec. 25, 2020, surrounded by family while under hospice care. Eldon, son of Howard and Vera Oldfather Rahmiller, was born on Oct. 18, 1943, in Oelwein. He spent his childhood in Volga, and graduated from Volga High School in 1961. On Dec. 26, 1966, Eldon and Gayle Peterson were married at the First Baptist Church in Cresco. They had two sons, Ryan and Brad.

Eldon earned a Purple Heart while serving with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam. Later, he graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor of arts degree and a master of arts degree in education. He joined the Ellsworth Community College faculty in Iowa Falls as the media specialist until retirement in 2001.

David Bruce Reichter, 77, of Elkader, passed away on Dec. 22, 2020, at MercyOne Elkader Medical Center. Dave was born on Sept. 18, 1943, in Fort Dodge, the son of Wendell and Bernice (Keen) Reichter of Goldfield.

Richard M. Russell

Richard Milton Russell, 67, of Marquette, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020, at Gundersen Health in La Crosse, Wis. He was born Aug. 13, 1953, to Milton and Ethel (Haerer) Russell in Waukon. Richard graduated from Waukon High School in 1971.

Richard was united in marriage with Renee Cummings on Feb. 19, 1972, at East Paint Creek Synod Church, Waterville. Three children were born to this union. Richard was employed at 3M in Prairie du Chien, Wis., for over 30 years. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed league softball, golfing, watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes, playing cards, browsing flea markets and reading newspapers and magazines.  His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

Irene A. Henry Riley

Irene A. Henry Riley, 84, of McGregor, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, Wis. She was born Sept. 4, 1936, to Raymond and Agnes (Adney) Henry in McGregor. Irene graduated from Mar-Mac High School.

Irene was united in marriage to Gene Riley on June 1, 1957, at The Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua. They eventually bought Irene’s childhood home, where she still lived, to raise their three children and later two grandchildren. Throughout the years, Irene worked at the McGregor Hospital for Dr. Pfeiffer, Bickel Insurance, Prairie Federal Savings and Loan and Anchor Savings Bank. She enjoyed knitting, reading and spending time at the McGregor Public Library.

Margaret C. Schlueter

Margaret Clara (Mueller) Schlueter, 95, of Garnavillo, IA died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Margaret was born June 25, 1925, in Garnavillo, the daughter of Herman and Margaret (Harter) Mueller. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Garnavillo. On April 16, 1947, Margaret was united in marriage with Aloysius (Hans) Schlueter at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo. Together they farmed south of Garnavillo until their retirement in 1984.

Scylvan M. Bahls

Scylvan Max Bahls, 90, of Garnavillo, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, at Guttenberg Care Center. He was born on Dec. 16, 1929, in Clayton, the son of Verni and Esther (Lahrs) Bahls.

Scylvan received his education locally and worked for John Deere for over 30 years. On April 3, 1961, Scylvan was united in marriage with Ramona Horstman at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Scylvan loved fishing, gardening, playing cards, dice and dominoes and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and music concerts. He loved to work on puzzles and take one-day trips with his family to see something new. He was also known to jump in and help his children with many home improvement projects. He will be missed by all who loved him.

Don P. Buckman

Don P. Buckman, 86, of the Garnavillo and Elkader areas, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

He was born April 11, 1934, to Arthur and Frances (Cords) Buckman on the family farm. He attended country school in Read Township until the third grade, when the family moved to town. Don graduated from Elkader High School with the class of 1952. Don entered the United States Army, serving in Germany from 1954 to 1955.

Don was united in marriage to Donna Robinson on June 23, 1956, at the United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Three sons were born to this union, Douglas, Darren and Dirk.

August E. 'Gene' Riley

August Eugene Riley, 86, of McGregor, died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at Great River Care Center in McGregor. He was born Feb. 19, 1934, to John J. and Pearl (Laufer) Riley, both of McGregor. He was raised in Sny Magill, where he attended school before graduating from McGregor High School.

Lorraine R. Ayers

Lorraine Ruth Ayers, 86, of McGregor, passed away on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020, at Great River Care Center in McGregor. Lorraine was born June 30, 1934 to Elmer and Elsie (Schave) Brainard in Frankville, and attended school in Postville.  

Lorraine was united in marriage with LaVern Ayers on Nov. 15, 1952. Throughout the years, she worked as a CNA for Prairie Convalescence Center, Beaumont Group Home and Homeward Bound. Lorraine was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in McGregor, where she was an organist for many years. When her children were young, Lorraine was a Cub Scout den mother and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed garden canning, bowling on a league, going on trips, dining out and playing cards with friends and family.

Ashley M. Plagman

Ashley Marie Plagman, 27, of Waukon, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at Gundersen Health in La Crosse, Wis. She was born Sept. 20, 1993, to Peter and Brenda (Potter) Plagman in Elkader. Ashley graduated from Postville High School in 2012, where she participated in cross country, basketball, volleyball and cheerleading. She was also in the talented and gifted program, Upward Bound, at Luther in Decorah. Ashley continued her education at NEICC and NIACC.
