Clinton A. Dennis

Clinton A. Dennis, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 26. A visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 31, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday. Sept. 1, at 10 a.m., at First Lutheran Church, in Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m., sy Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor.

Clint was a part of the Mississippi from the time he was born. He grew up in Waterloo, and was a graduate of Waterloo West High School. He went on to wrestle for Iowa State University and graduated with a B.A. in industrial engineering. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) fraternity and an avid Cyclone fan.


Lloyd Carl Ernest Drahn

Lloyd Carl Ernest Drahn, 100, of Monona, died July 26, at Good Samaritan in Postville. 

He was born March 27, 1918, on the family farm near Froelich, to parents Fred and Emilie Kaiser Drahn. He was the ninth of eleven children and his mother stated, he was the only one to wait for the doctor to arrive for delivery. Thus began a lifelong love of farming and stewardship of land and farm animals. Lloyd was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona. Lloyd attended the Drahn Country School and graduated from Monona High School in 1935. This education began a love of reading and poetry in particular. Lloyd would be referred to as a “farmer poet” and was known to recite poetry from these days until the end of his life.


Ruth Andresen Bickel

Ruth Andresen Bickel, a resident of Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, died peacefully on Aug. 6, after a short illness. She was surrounded by family at her death.

Ruth was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Flensburg, Germany to Antonia Panitz Andresen and Claus August Andresen. Her father was a violinist and landscape painter who, with Antonia and Ruth, immigrated to the United States aboard the Westphalia. They arrived at Ellis Island July 4, 1923. Shortly thereafter they made their way by train to Dysart, Iowa where Claus Andresen’s brother owned a house painting company. 


Stephen Warner Towle

Stephen Warner Towle, 81, of Paw Paw, passed away July 13, at his home. 

He was born in McGregor, Iowa, on Feb. 9, 1937, to the late William Irving and LaVonne (Prouty) Towle. On Nov. 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Virgene (Berns) Towle.


Erwin Ruff


Erwin Ruff, 92, of McGregor, died Friday, May 25, at his home in McGregor, in the care of his family. 


He was born on May 28, 1925, to Edmund and Clara (Berns) Ruff in National. Erwin joined the U.S. Army, served in World War II and was honorably discharged.


Rebecca Erin Springsteen


Rebecca Erin Springsteen, 16, of Marquette, passed away Tuesday, May 15, at her home in Marquette. 


Rebecca was born Nov. 13, 2001, to James and Trina (Shaffer) Springsteen in Prairie du Chien, Wis. She was a sophomore at MFL Mar-Mac in Monona, and played volleyball. Rebecca was a member at St. Paul Lutheran Church.


Dawson Brown


Dawson Brown, 20, of Cedar Rapids, passed away surrounded by his family, Sunday, May 6, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.


A celebration of life was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 10, at First Methodist Church of Marion.



Marylu Sauer


Marylu Sauer, of Madison, had the soul of a gypsy, the spirit of a hippie and the heart of an angel. She passed away unexpectedly on May 5.  



Henry L. “Hank” Nelsen

Henry L. “Hank” Nelsen, 94, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Wednesday, May 9, at Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis.



Robert O. Hinkel

Robert O. Hinkel, 89, of Marquette, passed away Sunday, April 22, at his home.


He was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Wadena, the son of Oscar and Mae (Voshell) Hinkel. He married Wanita Bruehahn on Sept. 20, 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in McGregor. She later preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 2000.
