Steven D. Cox

 

Steven D. Cox, 61, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, April 5. 

He was born Aug. 16, 1954 in Baraboo, the son of Orville and Darlene (Burris) Cox. He married Linda Tangney on May 4, 1979 in North Freedom. Steve was retired from the Canadian Pacific Railroad and was currently employed at Kwik Trip in Prairie du Chien.

Glenna M. Schwenn

 

On April 7, Glenna M. Schwenn, daughter of Ed and Edith Mehne, passed away of complications from cancer.

Born Jan. 30, 1926 in Almond, Wis., she and her older sister, Kathleen, were raised in farm life. She met Lee W. Schwenn at a dance, and were married Jan. 16, 1947. After their son, William “Skip,” was born on Lee’s birthday Dec. 23, 1948, she elected to devote herself full-time to making and nurturing her family’s home life. She injected her own unique style of enthusiasm and adventure into her marriage and parenthood, shaping ordinary activities into fun events. After Skip moved into adulthood, she learned and performed volunteer nursing assistance duties at a local hospital.

Mary C. Kapinus

 

Mary C. Kapinus, 70, of Wauzeka died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 6, at the Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. 

She was born June 12, 1945 in Platteville, the daughter of George and Eva (Udelhoven) Pennekamp. She married William Kapinus on Oct. 2, 1965 in Tennyson. Mary worked at Rayovac in Fennimore, for over 29 years until her retirement. She enjoyed Bingo and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren.

Patricia E. Wachuta

 

Patricia E. Wachuta, 93, of Prairie du Chien passed away Monday, April 4, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa.

She was born March 6, 1923 in Eastman, the daughter of John and Margaret (Wall) Phillip. She married Clifford Wachuta on June 6, 1949 at St. John’s Church in Prairie du Chien. She was a graduate of the La Crosse Teacher’s College and later taught in rural schools near Eastman for 7 years. She and Clifford farmed in rural Prairie du Chien. Her husband preceded her in death on April 24, 1979. Patricia was active in 4H, the Homemaker’s Association, the Head Start Program, Wisconsin First Book, St. Gabriel’s Parish and the Lower Wisconsin River Genealogy Society.

Clement L. Stram

 

 Clement L. Stram, 83, of Prairie du Chien passed away Sunday, April 3, at his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. 

He was born Nov. 4, 1932 in Prairie du Chien the son of Leo and Birdie (Koecke) Stram. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Clem married Jacqueline Kasparek on Sept. 27, 1955 at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. He worked at National Decorated Metals and the FS Plant in Prairie du Chien. He later retired after many years with the Crawford County Highway Department. Clem was a renowned fisherman, hunter and trapper. He was a devoted family man and an active member of St. Gabriel’s Parish.

Renee Jean (Horstman) Hampton

 

Renee Jean (Horstman) Hampton, 52, Prairie du Chien, died Friday, March 25, at Gundersen Hospital in La Crosse from injuries received in an automobile accident. 

Renee was born June 27, 1963 to Donald Horstman and Mary (Koch) Horstman in Fort Benning, Ga. Renee attended Guttenberg High School. Renee married William (Bill) Hampton on June 27, 2003. Renee had one son from a previous marriage, Philip Reed.

Merrill McMillin

 

Merrill McMillin, 83, of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, April 2, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. 

He was born April 16, 1932 in McGregor, Iowa the son of Clarence and Leona (Tangeman) McMillin. He married Margaret Charvat on May 16, 1981 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Eastman. She preceded him in death on July 10, 2011. Merrill worked as a farmer and later as a cheesemaker for Swiss Valley Farms in Monona, Iowa. He was an active member of St. Wenceslaus Church in Eastman.

Albena Mary Sutton

 

Albena Mary Sutton, 103, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Thursday, March 31, at Four Winds Manor in Verona, surrounded by family.

She was born Dec. 30, 1912 in Wauzeka, the daughter of Mathias and Mary (Kracha), the seventh child of eleven children. She graduated from Wauzeka High School in 1931 and studied nursing at Prairie Sanitarium in Prairie du Chien until it closed in 1934. Albena married LaVern Sutton on Aug. 26, 1933 at St. Patrick’s Church, Seneca and together they farmed and raised five children until LaVern’s death on Oct. 6, 1956.

Constance M. “Connie” Esser

 

Constance M. “Connie” Esser, 74, of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, April 1, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien following an extended illness. 

She was born May 17, 1941 in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Virgil and Mildred (Kussmaul) Bushnell. She married Henry “Buzz” Esser on Sept. 28, 1963 at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. Connie worked in medical records for several different healthcare facilities in Prairie du Chien and was a member of the Eagles Club Auxiliary.

Terry Vincent “TC” Clements

 

Terry Vincent “TC” Clements, 64, passed away at his home in Sparta, on Wednesday, March 30, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. 

He was born April 17, 1951, in Prairie du Chien to Paul and Helen (McCauley) Clements. 

Terry was a very hard worker. Starting in 1969 when he graduated from Prairie du Chien High School, he always had a project that needed to be done. He started working at 3M in Prairie du Chien in 1970, and thereafter retired in 1999. Terry then moved to La Crosse, and became a self-employed contractor.
