Eunice J. Nading

Eunice J. Nading, 102, of West Union, died peacefully in her home with family by her side on Sunday, May 10, 2020. Eunice, the daughter of Arthur and Hilda (Lemke) Staack, was born on June 17, 1917, in Guttenberg. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center. At the age of 2 years, Eunice moved with her parents to a farm near Clayton Center, where she was raised in a German community and attended Denmark Country School. During her childhood, Eunice spoke only German in her Clayton Center home and in church.

Jean Ann Dougherty

Jean Ann (nee Gavin) Dougherty of Elkader passed away peacefully at her home on May 11, 2020. She was 87 years old.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Dougherty, who passed away in December. They were married a lifetime, 66 years, having wed on Valentine’s Day in 1953. Jean was also preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Francis Gavin, sisters Dorothy Collins and Jule Hermanson, brothers Joe Gavin and William Gavin, as well as an infant son, Gerald.

Betty Larson Seitz

Betty Larson Seitz, 87, of West Union, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020, at Good Samaritan Society in West Union. Betty Elaine Larson was born in Elgin on Nov. 19, 1932, to Gladys and Ernest Larson. She received her education and graduated from the Elgin Public School. Betty was united in marriage with Earl Seitz on March 18, 1951, and lived in Elgin most of her life, moving to West Union after her husband died.

Leon Carl Emil Hoth

Leon Carl Emil Hoth, 84, of St. Olaf, died Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at MercyOne in Elkader. Leon was born Feb. 6, 1936, on a farm in Clayton County to Willis and Emma (Bahls) Hoth. He was baptized June 7, 1936, and confirmed on April 10, 1949, by Rev. Kitterer, at E&R Church in Elkader. Leon attended Denmark Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Elkader High School in 1954. He lived and worked all his life on the family farm at 22248 Highway 13, near St. Olaf.

Elaine Kathryn Syverson

Elaine Kathryn Syverson, 97, of Elkader, died Monday, May 4, 2020, at MercyOne Medical Center in Elkader. Elaine was born Sept. 22, 1922, to Archie and Elsie (Roeder) Martin in Clayton County. She graduated from Elkader High School and attended Elkader Junior College. She proudly joined and served in the United States Marines Women’s Reserve from July 15, 1943 to Aug. 22, 1946, being honorably discharged at the rank of technical sergeant.

Gloria Gayle Priem

Gloria Gayle Priem, age 86, of Garnavillo, IA, died Monday, May 4, 2020, at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg, IA.

Gloria was born September 20, 1933 to Milo and Vella (Boardman) Decker she was one of seven children in her family, she graduated from Garnavillo High School.

On March 15, 1953 Gloria married the love of her life Dean Priem at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo, they were married for 52 years when Dean passed away in 2006. She worked as a server/bartender for many years at the Kountry Manor. In recent years Gloria enjoyed knitting dish towels/ dish scrubbers for friends and family and often times you would receive one as a gift. Gloria also could be found doing jig saw puzzles, crossword puzzles or reading a book.

Gloria will always be remembered by her two children; Cathy McLane and Robert (Joyce) Priem; Grandchildren; Jared (Fiancé Cheri) Werger, Daughter-in-law Jessica Werger, Travis (Amy) Priem, Brandon (Ashley) Priem, Shawna Priem, Seven great-grandchildren, one sister Judy Waddell, one brother Charles Decker, many other nieces, nephews relatives and friends.       

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean in 2006, grandson Jeff Werger, sister Fay Thein, Three brother; Leslie Decker, John Decker, Milo (Chip) Decker, infant grandson David Priem.

In lieu of flowers and all types of sympathy the family ask that memorial be given to St. Croix Hospice 101 Elkader St. Strawberry Point. IA 5207

Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 001 S. Industrial Park Rd Garnavillo, IA. Due to the Corona Virus 19 concerns, there will be a Private Family Service and Interment. The family plans to hold a public memorial at a later date.

Kathleen Conboy Dougherty

Kathleen Conboy Dougherty died at St. Crispin Living Community, Red Wing, Minn., on April 15, 2020, after a brief illness. She was born in Volga City, the daughter of John (Jack) Conboy and Anna Samp Conboy on July 6, 1923. At the age of 11, they moved to Strawberry Point, and she graduated from that high school in 1940.

Beverly J. Kelly

     Beverly J. Kelly, 86, of Prairie du Chien, WI, formerly of Elkader, IA died Sunday, April 12, 2020, at the Guttenberg Care Center in Guttenberg, Iowa.

     Surviving Beverly is her grandson, Scott (Becky) Kelly of Guttenberg, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Alisha, Trevor, Dustin and Kayla. Bev was preceded in death by her husband, Alto Kelly; her two children, Deborah Kelly and Randy Kelly; her parents, Earl and Mildred Sterling and her special aunt Esther Goering.

Helen Jennings

Helen Margaret Jennings, 88, of Manchester, Iowa, formerly of Garber, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Manchester.

She was born on September 16, 1931, in Colesburg,  Helen was raised in rural Colesburg and was a graduate of Colesburg High School.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 67 years, Clyde.

Survivors include her two children, Edwin (Tina) Jennings of Strawberry Point and Jean Vorwald of Manchester; four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
