Marvin Vernon Kuehl

Marvin Vernon Kuehl, 77, of McGregor, Iowa. passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Marvin was born March 28, 1943 to Edward & Phyllis (Wikan) Kuehl on the family farm, Highland Township, Clayton County, rural Elkader Iowa. Marvin attended Boland County School and graduated from Central Community High School in 1960.

Memorials may be made to Mc Gregor E.M.T. Service, Prairie du Chien Ambulance and Roger Kuehl P.O. Box 273 Garnavillo, Iowa 52049-0273.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. There will be a private celebration of Marvin's life at a later date.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of McGregor, Iowa is assisting the family.

Mary Geraldine "Jerry" White

Mary Geraldine “Jerry” White, a long-time resident of the Elkader area, passed away Wednesday March 25, 2020l at the Elkader Care Center.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, June 23, 1936, to James and Helen Patricia Green, Jerry received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mercy College in 1958. Jerry majored in math, with two teaching minors of French and English, also with becoming a secondary school teacher.

Jerry taught as the only math teacher at Mercy College for five years from 1958-1963. While teaching full time Jerry continued her education at the University of Detroit to get her Masters Degree. Jerry was joined in marriage to William “Bill” C. White of Elkader on July 6, 1963 in Detroit, MI at St. Scholastica’s Church by Father Livius. Bill and Jerry relocated to Elkader, IA after a short honeymoon. To this 50-year union seven children and four angel babies were born. Seventeen grandchildren followed.

She is survived by her children: Robert White (fiance’ Ashely Gordon), Barabra (Al) Stagman, Bridget Koester, Elizabeth (Carl) Petsche, Brian (Cathy) White, Bradley (Jill) White, and Bernard (Melodie) White; 17 grandchildren; her brother, Father Mike Green, and two sisters, Cathy Mitchell, and Nancy Green, all of Detroit, MI

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Eugene 'Gene' Cooley

Eugene “Gene” Charles Cooley died peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, March 30, 2020, two days after celebrating his 96th birthday.

Gene was born March 28, 1924, in Wyalusing Township, to Roxa O. (Clark) and Elgie C. Cooley. The youngest of six children on the family farm, he attended a one-room school in Brodtville, which required walking two and a half miles each way. He graduated from Bagley High School, where he was active in baseball and basketball, in 1942. He continued playing in summer leagues into his 50s.

Diane K. Glawe

Diane K. Glawe, age 60, died Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at Glen Oaks Health and Rehabilitation in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Born in Postville, Iowa on May 4, 1959 to the late Lloyd Everett and Florence (Laramee) Reierson, Diane was an active member of Marion Lutheran Church in her youth, as she grew up in rural Elgin, Iowa.

She attended Valley Community Schools and on July 12, 1980 was united in marriage to Randy E. Glawe at Marion Lutheran Church. She and Randy had no children but were avid sports fans and diligently loved and followed Nascar. They lived and worked in several locales, following Randy's occupation as a water tank installation manager.

Diane is survived by a sister, Betty Dyrland, and a brother, Richard Reierson
No memorial services are planned. Jennings & Ayers Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Carl Joseph Burgin, 34, of Elkader, died Thursday, March 12, 2020, at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, WI. He was born May 17, 1985, to Bill and Marcia (Dahling)
Burgin, in Elkader, Iowa.

Carl is survived by his son, Bentley Hallock of Elkader.

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak, all services were cancelled. A Celebration of Life Service
will be held at a later date.

Thomas Norman Baker, 85, of Gunder, Iowa died Friday, March 6, 2020, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Thomas was born August 17, 1934.

Thomas was united in marriage with Barbara Jarm on August 18, 1956, at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Des Plaines, Illinois. Thomas was a member of the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder, Iowa and a life time member of NRA. Thomas enjoyed hunting, woodworking, gardening and working around the farm.

Richard “Dick” Clauson, 82, of Lansing, Iowa died Sunday, March 8, 2020, at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. Richard was born February 26, 1938, to Walter and Dorothy (Wright) Clauson in Strawberry Point, Iowa. He graduated from Strawberry Point High School and attended University of Iowa Business School.

Dick was united in marriage with Ruth Viette Englehorn on July 26, 1959, at United Methodist Church in Lansing. Dick worked for the American Airlines as a Pilot from 1960 to 1995.

Robert "Bob" Bankes

Robert “Bob” Bankes, 92, of Union, IA went to be with Lord and Savior on the morning of February 29, 2020, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his family at his side.

A celebration of life was held for Bob on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, IA. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Human Society,

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 38 years, Kathy Bankes, children Joel (Karen) Bankes; Julia Buis; Allan (Debbie) Bankes; Lee Collins, Kristeen Perkidsl Mark (Kibby) Collins; Kelly Kadner; and Matt Demmel; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, one on the way; his uncle, Harry Hubbard; numerous nieces and nephews; and his nine four-legged furry companions.

Donald Wold

Donald Aden Wold, age 93, of Saint Olaf, Iowa, died February 23, 2020, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. He was born on February 18, 1927, on the Wold family farm, rural Saint Olaf, Iowa, the son of Harrison and Gina Gilbertson Wold.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Berniece, his beloved parents, and all of his siblings, Rachel, Harrison, Ruth, and Leigh. He is survived by his daughter, Dawn, and her husband, Dr. David Herrmann; his grandson, Zach Herrmann and wife Jillian; and his great-granddaughter, Emmajean Herrmann.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020, with a visitation one hour before - all at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf with Rev. Marshall Hahn officiating. Interment was at Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural St. Olaf.

Leonard Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader assisted the family.
