Both teams were strong on the mound on Tuesday but Wauzeka-Steuben was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over Seneca in Ridge and Valley baseball action. 

A single by Noah Allan in the first inning was a positive for Seneca.

Seneca defeated host Wauzeka-Steuben 12-8 in a Ridge and Valley softball game Tuesday afternoon.

Haley Wall earned the mound win. She allowed 8 runs on 9 hits and issued 7 walks while fanning 10.

Siena Krachey took the loss. She gave up 12 runs on 16 hits and issued 3 walks and whiffed 1.

River Ridge defeated visiting Wauzeka-Steuben 5-3 in a nonconference baseball game Thursday afternoon.

The Timberwolves scored 2 runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead.

River Ridge scored 3 more in the fourth to increase the lead to 5-0.

Wauzeka-Steuben bested host River Ridge 16-1 in a nonconference softball game Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Hornets scored 5 runs in the top of the second inning to go up 5-0. 

Wauzeka-Steuben scored 2 runs in the fourth and 2 more in the fifth to increase their lead to 9-0.

Southwestern ends Seneca’s season in sectional semifinal

Another good season for Seneca came to an end Thursday night in Mineral Point at the hands of surprising Southwestern in a WIAA Division 5 Regional semifinal.

The seventh seeded Wildcats nipped the top seeded and fourth-ranked Indians 67-66 in a double overtime thriller to advance to the sectional final at La Crosse Logan on Saturday night. Southwestern began the playoffs with a 10-12 overall record and are now 14-12. Along the way on their Cinderella run, they have beaten the number 2, number 3 and number 1 seeds.

Seneca defeats 

Wauzeka-Steuben for regional title

Seneca defeated visiting Wauzeka-Steuben 61-51 in a WIAA Division 5 Regional final Saturday night in boys basketball action.

Top seeded Seneca held a 23-21 lead at the half over fourth seeded Wauzeka-Steuben. The Indians came out hot at the start of the second half and increased the margin to 10 points early in the half.

River Valley tops Prairie du Chien

Fourth seeded Prairie du Chien lost to visiting and fifth seeded River Valley 66-37 in a WIAA Division 3 Regional semifinal Friday night.

Prairie du Chien finished its season with an 11-11 overall record. They were 6-4 in the Southwest Wisconsin Conference.

River Valley improved to 12-12 on the season and advanced to the regional final at top seeded Platteville.

Lady Timberwolves

River Ridge’s nice season came to an end Thursday night as Shullsburg edged the Lady Timberwolves 36-34 in a WIAA Division 5 Sectional girls basketball game in Prairie du Chien.

Skylar White netted 16 points and Rachael Herrick scored 7 for the third seeded Timberwolves who finished their season with a 21-5 overall record.

Fourth seeded Wauzeka-Steuben handled visiting and 13th seeded Ithaca 75-56 in a WIAA Division 5 Regional Tuesday night. 

The Hornets improved to 19-4 on the season. They were 11-3 in the Ridge and Valley Conference. 

The Bulldogs finished their season with a 7-16 overall record. They were 6-8 in conference action.

Wheeler Third at State

Wheeler 3rd at State Tournament

River Ridge-Cassville wrestler Ben Wheeler took third place in the 285-pound weight class at the Division 3 Individual State Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center this past weekend. 

Wheeler, a senior, defeated Seth Roberts of Johnson Creek by fall in 1:21 in his first match Thursday night. 

Wheeler then lost in the quarterfinal to Max Villnow of Amherst, 11-4 on Friday.
