Wauzeka-Steuben easily beat visiting Weston 71-29 in a Ridge and Valley girls basketball game Thursday night. 

Wauzeka-Steuben built a 48-20 halftime lead and cruised to the win.

Erin Krachey had a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Hornets. Jordan Mormann netted 11. Maddy Reichmann scored 10 and Ravyn Krachey tickled the twine for 8.

The defending SWC and Regional Champion PdC Blackhawks opened the 2018-2019 season on Thursday, Nov. 29, traveling to always tough Viroqua for a nonconference dual. 

The meet started at 195#. Grant Martin made his debut in a Blackhawk singlet. Martin wrestled a tough match against a senior before being pinned in period two. 

At 220#, Luke Wright would lock up a bear hug and take his opponent to his back for a quick first period fall.

It was a scrappy game between host River Ridge and Prairie du Chien Tuesday night.

 

Prairie du Chien defeated host River Ridge 55-41 in nonconference girls basketball action Tuesday night. 

The Lady Blackhawks built a 24-18 halftime lead over the Lady Timberwolves.

Macey Banasik netted 11 points to pace Prairie du Chien. Lily Krahn pumped in 10. Ella Hager scored 9. Gabby Ritchie and Makenzie Knapp each had 7. Abby Feye scored 5 and Allison Allbee had 4.

Turkey Trot a big success

Numerous walkers also participated in a more relaxed fashion at the annual 5K Run-Walk of the Prairie du Chien Turkey Trot.

 

Back at it again! Prairie du Chien’s Annual Turkey Trot was another success! There were more than 150 enthusiastic participants, more than 100 pounds of food donated to the Crawford County Food Pantry and over $500 raised! 

The morning was a brisk beautiful fall day. Families and friends enjoyed stretching and reminiscing in the Hoffman Hall gym while signing up for raffle prizes donated by local businesses.

Prairie du Chien beat visiting Fennimore 42-26 in a nonconference girls basketball game Friday night. 

Prairie du Chien improved to 1-0 on the season while Fennimore fell to 0-1. 

The Lady Blackhawks led 15-8 at the half.

The River Ridge High School volleyball team finished an outstanding season on Friday morning as they took on Clayton in the State Volleyball Tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay. 

Defending State Champion Clayton defeated River Ridge in three tight games 26-24, 26-24 and 25-20 in the Division 4 semifinal. Clayton (29-4) went on to lose to Catholic Central (39-7) in three games in the championship match on Saturday.

The Prairie du Chien cross country team showed their support for Meg Katzung and Amber Huser Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.

At the Division 2 WIAA Cross Country State Championships in Wisconsin Rapids on Oct. 27, we hear the gentle sound of the runner’s feet coming around the bend. Beach Boys fans close their eyes and start to pick up “Good Vibrations.” 

Christopher Cross says we’ve got such a long way to go to make it to the finish line. So watch us as we run like the wind. As the race went on and the finish was getting near, our legs weak, no time to sleep, we ran like the wind to be free one more time.

Olympic skeleton medalist Antoine announces retirement

Before leaving the mixed zone at the completion of his fourth and final run at the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games in 2018, Matt Antoine of Prairie du Chien said he was going to “take it easy, decompress a little bit” before he figured out what he was going to do next.

Antoine won the national team selection trial held in Lake Placid, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 20, Thursday, Oct. 25 and Friday, Oct. 26, but he knew the fire wasn’t there anymore and reigniting the passion wasn’t going to happen on his sled. Antoine figured out what will: coaching.
