River Ridge runners do well

The River Ridge girls cross country team won the 10-school Goat Hill Classic in North Crawford on Tuesday. The girls finished with 31 points. The girls won the first ever plaque for River Ridge in cross country. The River Ridge boys team took second behind Wauzeka-Steuben at the Goat Hill Classic. Above are the River Ridge runners who won medals by finishing in the top 10. They are Glenna Marshall, Riley Klein, Faith Webb, Bradley Hoffman and Brett Kerscher. Platteville defeats PdC soccer

The Prairie du Chien boys soccer team hosted the Platteville Hillmen Tuesday night. It was Parents’ Night and at halftime parents of players and managers were introduced and thanked for their unending support and dedication to the players and the program.

Platteville took early control of the game, but the Blackhawks defense put up a tight wall and stopped the Hillmen attack including a penalty kick stop by goalie Ryan Thien. Late in the half, 44:05, Platteville found a crack in the Prairie’s defensive shield and slipped in the score to take a 1-0 lead at the half.

The Lady Hawk golfers hosted their first conference match of the season against Lancaster on Aug. 30 at Prairie du Chien Country Club. Lancaster only had three players available for scoring so the match was unofficial. The Lady Hawk varsity had Gabby Ritchie, Macy Sander and Molly Peterson each card a 56 to lead team scoring. Sophie Miller added a 59 and Allison Kennedy a 62 for a four-person team score of 227. The Lady Hawks' next home match will be Thursday, Sept. 6 with a 4 p.m. start time.

West Salem 8, PdC 1

The Prairie du Chien boys soccer team hosted West Salem Saturday for a nonconference match versus the D3 Panthers.

The Blackhawks played strong, but the speed and experience of the Panthers combined with excellent passing found creases in the PdC defense scoring three times in the first period of the match.  Salem scored a fourth quick goal one minute into the second period and took a 4-0 lead.

Prairie du Chien volleyball started their season off strong with a non-conference 3 set to 1 win over visiting Decorah Tuesday night. Prairie won by scores of 25-12, 24-26, 25-8, 25-18.

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks opened up their 2018 football season on Friday night against visiting LaCrosse Aquinas. Aquinas (0-1) traveled to Prairie du Chien looking for revenge after dropping the season opener two years in a row to the Hawks (1-0). 


Coleman on American Legion All Star Team, game at Miller Park

Drake Coleman has been selected to the American Legion All Star Team.


For only the third time since 1987, a member of Prairie du Chien's American Legion Baseball Team will be playing in the All Star Game. The Grasshoppers' catcher, Drake Coleman, was selected to join 94 other Legion players for those special games. As a catcher, Drake's consistent play and hitting earned him this honored spot with the All Stars.

Coleman will join the other All Star players who will then divide into teams and play after the Brewers versus the Rockies game on Sunday, Aug. 5 at Miller Park.


Prairie du Chien American Legion baseball to hold fish fry fundraiser
