The River Ridge-Cassville softball team played a doubleheader against two area teams Tuesday afternoon in Patch Grove. 

In the opener, RRC bested Seneca 12-8. Seneca led 2-1 after one complete inning.

Viroqua edges PdC girls in eight

Viroqua edged host Prairie du Chien 10-8 in 8 innings nonconference softball action Thursday afternoon.

Viroqua scored a run in the top of the first inning, but Prairie answered with 3 in the bottom half to take a 3-1 lead.

The Lady Hawks scored another run in the second to increase the margin to 4-1.

Blackhawks 

beat Blue Devils

The Prairie du Chien Blackhawks boys’ basketball team (23-2) came out on top with a 41-29 victory over the Lodi Blue Devils (17-7) in a sub-sectional Division 3 WIAA Tournament game Thursday night in Richland Center.

It was a tremendous defensive effort by the Blackhawks.  Lodi was held to 13 first-half points as the Hawks took a 22-13 lead in the game.

Top seeded Seneca defeated visiting and fourth seeded Shullsburg 64-54 in a Division 5 Regional final in boys basketball action Saturday night to advance to the Sectional semifinal in Reedsburg on Thursday, March 10 where they will face second seeded Barneveld.

Prairie du Chien met River Valley for the third time this season in Division 3 Regional boys basketball action Friday night and expected a very physical game after defeating River Valley twice during the regular season.  

The Hawks opened up the game with a 7-0 run with Chas Sagedahl contributing 4 points and Nathan Banasik nailing a 3-pointer before River Valley had to burn a time-out.

Prairie girls trounce Platteville

The Prairie du Chien Lady Blackhawks clinched an opportunity for the sectional championship by dismantling the Platteville Hillmen 70-52 in a Division 3 sectional semifinal at Baraboo High School Thursday night. 

A close first half was succeeded in the second half by an avalanche of Blackhawk field goals that thwarted any chance of a Hillmen comeback.

cheerleaders are State Champs

On Saturday, Feb. 27, the Prairie du Chien basketball cheerleaders attended the 2016 WACPC (Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches) State Cheer Championship Competition held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The girls had earned the right to compete at the state level after winning the Northern Regional the weekend before in the two divisions they competed in.

Seneca takes 

care of Riverdale

Top seeded Seneca took care of business Tuesday night to dispatch of 16th seeded Riverdale 76-51 in a Division 5 Regional boys basketball game.

Seneca improved to 20-2 on the season. The Indians were Ridge and Valley Conference champions with a 14-0 record. 

Riverdale finished its season with a 1-22 overall record.

Beers, Hall at State Wrestling Tournament

Prairie du Chien/Wauzeka-Steuben’s Clayton Beers (120#) ended his high school career in style Saturday afternoon at the WIAA State Tournament. The senior was able to win the last match of his career, and while doing it climb the podium to the third place spot.
