The winter sports season has ramped up quickly for the Prairie du Chien boys basketball team, which recorded a conference loss and a non-conference win last week.

Friday night, they hosted South West Conference foe Dodgeville. The intensity was high. The speed was fast. In terms of height, the teams were evenly matched. But the Dodgers got out to a strong lead and held double digits over Prairie du Chien from about halfway through the first half through the rest of the contest. The score at the half was 33-22, Dodgeville.

In the second half, the Blackhawks pressed their opponents and managed to pull within six points several times, but it just wasn’t enough to secure the win. Dodgeville triumphed, 64-57.

On Saturday afternoon, the boys headed to compete with their rivals across the river, MFL Mar-Mac. The Hawks brought home the victory, 57-41.

River Ridge proved too tough an opponent for the Prairie du Chien girls’ basketball team Monday night. The Timberwolves came to town and snagged a convincing victory, 47-26, over the Blackhawks.

“We were getting some balanced scoring from our team,” River Ridge Coach Caron Townsend said. “We had a very good defensive effort. To hold a team like Prairie to 26 points is a good night for us.”

The first half of the contest was a low-scoring one. Ridge finished up 15-10. But in the second half, the Timberwolves’ four 3-pointers, two from Skylar White, blew the score open, leading to a 32-point second half for the visiting team.

White paced River Ridge’s offense with 17 points, while Maria Breuer also finished in double digits with 12. Taylor Langmeier and Rachael Herrick posted eight points apiece on the night and Faith Schier added two.
