Plagman Barn Show Days this weekend

Northeast Iowa Farm & Antique Association President Larry Moser holds a 100th birthday cake at the Plagman Barn Dance on Aug. 9. The barn was originally built in 1925 for barn dances and used until 1939. It was restored by the Northeast Iowa Farm & Antique Association in 1982.

The MFL MarMac girls cross country team won its second straight meet on Sept. 9, topping the leaderboard at the Clayton Ridge race with a score of 30, 11 points ahead of Maquoketa Valley. Warriors post many course and personal bests at Clayton Ridge meet

In the girls race, Blair Scherf set a new record for Central runners on the course with a time of 23:31.40.

Jesse Polkinghorn placed 10th with a course- and season-best time of 19:27.20.

Theodore (Ted) E. Thompson II

Theodore (Ted) Edward Thompson II passed away at the Iowa Veteran’s Home on Sept. 8, 2025. Ted was born on Aug. 3, 1945, to Ed and Evelyn Thompson. Ted was raised in Poplar Springs, Md., by his grandparents, Leroy and Irene Thompson. Ted had many fond memories of growing up with his uncle David in the family’s two-story farmhouse and spending time with his beloved aunt Vivian and her son Keith.
